October 2016
Dear Parents,
October has arrived and with it comes beautiful fall colours! We are definitely enjoying our time together as the new Junior Kindergarten students are exploring and learning their new school routines. Our second year friends have gotten right back into routine and have really stepped up in helping our new friends adjust to school life. It is wonderful to see all of them making new friends, collaborate and explore with one another.
Below is a summary of what we will be working on in class this month:
Personal and Social Development:
-expressing thoughts and sharing experiences orally
-self-reliance and sense of responsibility
Language (English and French)
-listening and responding to others
-following one and two step directions
-identifying personal preferences in reading
materials
-writing as a means of conveying ideas or
messages (message of the day, writing
centre)
Math
-one-to-one correspondence
-use, read and represent whole numbers to
10 in a variety of meaningful contexts
-use measurement terms(big/small,
empty/full, long/short, light/heavy) to
compare and order two or more objects
Science and Technology
-natural occurrences(weather)
-patterns and cycles in the natural world
(changing seasons)
Health and Physical Education
-what makes you happy/unhappy
-cooperative play
Art
-using a variety of tools and materials to create art
Important Dates to Remember:
• Oct. 4: Welcome Back BBQ 4:30 to 6:30
• Oct. 6: PD DAY (No school)
-Oct. 9th: Thanksgiving Day (No school...Enjoy the day with family and friends!)
-October 10th: Thanksgiving Mass at school, 1:00pm
We want to thank you for labelling your child's clothing as well as their snack and lunch containers as many containers look the same. This is very helpful in returning them to their rightful owners! As the cooler weather arrives, the children will be coming to school with more clothing so it is very important to label all pieces.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at school (613-828-0644).
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Team
